Twelve Months of Dining October Edition: The Lodge

3 Nov

Last Friday night was my first, and probably last, dinner at The Lodge, Jason Dady’s fine dining restaurant nestled in a gorgeous Castle Hills mansion. It was probably my last trip because it is closing its doors December 31st after 10 years. Kyle and I had been keeping an eye on the prix fixe themed dinners that The Lodge has offered for at least the last few months, and when the Tasting of Crab posted we made a reservation right away.

We started with an amuse bouche of salmon sashimi that was a perfect little burst of flavor. Next up was my favorite dish of the night – the Thai inspired crab bisque with mint syrup and basil oil. It was rich and spicy with big chunks of crab meat. The soup was followed by the pan seared crab cake with cherry tomato salad, root vegetable puree, and champagne beurre blanc. Next, we got a surprise dish courtesy of the Chef – pasta with duck confit and it was incredible. For the main event, Kyle and I both ordered the pan roasted salmon with Italian white beans, bacon, sweet potato, and asparagus, caramelized onion puree, with blue crab bearnaise. Really tender with bright flavors. We ended with the deconstructed sour cream “cheesecake” with pear and red wine jam, cinnamon gastrique, and candied walnuts – a perfect ending.

I am so sad that this amazing restaurant is closing – but I can only imagine that Jason Dady will open up another new treasure (check out some of the other Dady restaurants we have visited including Tre Trattoria, Two Bros BBQ Market, and the DUK Truck). Time is running out so be sure to dine at The Lodge before the end of the year.

The food all looks wonderful, but the crab bisque and crab cake look amazing!! The romantic ambiance of The Lodge would be difficult to recreate.

Gorgeous house AND food. (Cute date, too.) So maybe if you can’t eat there again, you can just LIVE there!

I must admit–in my spare time here in Yap, I am still checking up on the fun adventures you’re having in San Antonio. Man, these past two places you’ve posted pictures from are GORGEOUS! The food looks amazing as well. Seriously, though, the ambiance of those beautiful buildings is incredible. I hope to try them both (well, okay, not this one since it’s closing) someday.
